How To Prepare For Your Blessings

I remember asking God for a financial increase years ago. A large financial increase… not some chump change, I’m talking millions. I just knew God heard me and the millions were on its way. I didn’t know how I was going to get it, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. I just wanted it quickly so I can get out of debt.

I shared my prayer request with my mom and she said something that made me think. She said” If God wanted to give you what you ask for right now, he would have given it to you right now.” She was right, and I wondered why didn’t I have what I asked for? What is it that I wasn’t doing to get it?

After she made that statement, I did a self-evaluation of myself. I checked my motives for wanting this increase. Why did I need this money and what was I “Really” going to do with all that money? Let me just say, if God gave me what I asked for back then, I would be a broke somebody today. Those millions would have been gone in two days. #shoppingspree!  What was I thinking? I would have been in a bigger mess than I was before.  I was not in the right mind frame to receive that type of increase. I just didn’t think it through, I wasn’t prepared, and I definitely wasn’t in the right position to be blessed. Thank God for saving me from myself WHEW!!!

God is a giver, he delights himself in giving you everything you ask for according to his will.  That’s just what he does. He loves to see his people prosper. However if you are not prepared to receive it, it won’t happen. When you pray for something, you can rest assure it’s already done and its on the way, but if you’re not in position, you will cause your blessings to delay.IMG_20150725_154939

In 1985 my parents packed up their 2 bedroom apartment after making an offer for a house. They did not know when they were moving, or if the offer would be accepted. They just packed up their things anyway with great expectation of moving into their new place. A few weeks went by and  finally they received the call……The offer was accepted and they were able to move into their new home!  How crazy was that? They were prepared, in position and were ready to receive what they’d prayed for with expectation.

Blessings cannot come until there has been some type of preparation in your life. Often times when you pray, you look for God to do all the work. Why not?….He is God, he can do anything but fail Right?……. Right!  But, in every situation there has to be a preparation that is needed before the need can be met. For example: before, Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding, he asked the servants to fill the pots full of water. (John 2:7) Before there could be water, ditches were dug. (2 Kings 3:16-17) Before Naaman could be healed of leprosy, he had to dip in the Jordan River seven times. (2 Kings 5:10) Before the widowed husband’s debt could be paid, she filled empty jars with oil. (2 Kings 4:3-4)

Your preparation and position are important to getting your prayers answered. You must be prepared and in position to receive what you have prayed for.  The good news is; God has already answered your prayers and the blessings are in route, but you will not receive your blessings standing in one place. You will have to move your feet and go after it. Your blessings are not going to just fall in your lap, you must do something,  you must do your part. Whether it be writing your first book, applying for that new management position, starting a ministry , or reconciling your marriage, what ever it may be, make the next move prepare yourself  and get into position to receive your blessings.
